When your resume keeps getting screened out
The Move
Optimize for the algorithm without losing your human reader. Mirror the JD language, boost agentic verbs, and run the AI screener yourself first.
The Script
Use this as your pre-submission checklist: (1) Mirror 70%+ of the JD's key terms. (2) Replace every passive verb with an agentic one. (3) Run your resume through the same AI tools recruiters use. (4) Keep one authentically human paragraph — that's what gets you past the human round.
Your AI Prompt
Here is a job description: [paste JD]. Here is my resume: [paste resume]. Score the match 0–100 and list every keyword from the JD that's missing from my resume. Then rewrite my top 5 bullet points to mirror the JD language while keeping claims truthful. Flag any bullet that sounds robotic — I need to pass a human reader too.
Why This Works
Wilson & Caliskan (AIES 2024) found AI screening systems favored female-associated names in only 11.1% of comparisons. Cecchini et al. (2025) showed AI screening echoes gendered language from the job description itself, creating a bias feedback loop. The workaround: mirror the JD's exact language and swap communal verbs for agentic ones, then keep your human voice for the interview round.
